Every age loves it, from 5-80. And it crosses the gender lines, so its the perfect game to invest in. OK, so some may ask why I recommend this for young players, when its rated Teen. It has all your favorite Nintendo characters in various fight scenes. This isn’t the kind of violence you’d see in a Teen rated single person shooter like 007 Quantum of Solace, so why these two games are rated the same is beyond me!

For the single player game, the player is taken through an adventure game through mazes and old and new scenes to defeat the bad guys to get to the end.

The multiplayer game allows you to choose a character and battle your friends and family. Each character has its own unique set of abilities and fighting moves. And, you can choose from a wide variety of environments.

Super Smash Bros Brawl is a great Wii game for the whole family, and one that the kids will find fun in a day, a month, and a year from now.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is rated Teen, and if you’re a mom like me, you’re often confused by different levels within the Teen rating. Xmen Wolverine is not like The Simpsons level of Teen rating with cute and obnoxious comments from Bart Simpson. No, this is a ‘closer-to Mature’ Teen rating, with blood, lots of violence and fight scenes, and language that you probably don’t want your 12 year-old listening to. And, just to drive this point home, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Xmen Wolverine are rated Mature.

So, with that out of the way, let me tell you this was not one of our favorite Wii games. My son became bored with the fight scenes (which are similar to any Spiderman game you’ve ever played, but with less variations on combos and special powers).

The environments ranged from outside alleys to what looked like the insides of a Star Wars ship. The scenes are dark, so it is difficult to see who you are interacting with. We didn’t see the movie, so I’m sure much of it is lost on us. But, it just wasn’t visually appealing.

Sometimes, as parents we are willing to venture into Teen rated video games for more excitement, familiar characters, or a new level of game play, but X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn’t deliver on any of these levels, but still packed a punch in the rating dept. I’d pass on this one.

Playground is set in an elementary school playground during recess. The games you can play include Dodgeball, Tetherball, Wall Ball, Kicks, Slot Car Racing, Paper Racers, and Dart Shootout. When you’re on the playground, you’ll meet the Sticker King – a kid who gives you stickers for your marbles. You can win marbles and trade them in with the Sticker King for stickers.

After you collect enough stickers and Golden Stickers you can unlock other areas of the playground. It’s a fun concept and reward system built into the game.

Here is a look at some of the mini games you’ll need to do well at to earn your Golden Stickers!

Kicks

My son liked Kicks the best, which is a combination between tennis and soccer. There are 3 kids on each team and the object is to get the ball over the net and into the opponents goal.

Dodgeball

Everyone has played a friendly game of dodgeball in gym at school or on the playground. There are four people on a team. You throw the ball at the other team members. You can block the ball, or catch it to keep you in the game. The team who knocks out all the opposing team members – Wins!

Tetherball

The object of this game is to get the ball wrapped all the way around the post in the correct direction. My son didn’t like this mini-game.

Wall Ball

Wall ball is you against another player – either computer or a friend. You play with a tennis ball, and similar to tennis, you hit the ball against the wall and the other player must return it. If they fail to return the ball, you get a point. This was a boring mini game, but there were some added features to make the game more interesting – like a magic portal, speed ball, and you can earn extra points for hitting a certain spot on the wall.

Slot Car Racing

There are four toy cars, each in their own lane, that you can control with your “remote”. You can hit other cars off the track. There are obstacles and bonus speed found along the track. This was a fun one!

Paper Racers

Paper Racers was a difficult game. You have to navigate your paper airplane through the school hallway avoiding obstacles and aiming your plane through rings for extra points.

Dart Shootout

Dart Shootout is a fun way for the kids to play a shooting game without the violence. There are boxes and other objects to hide behind. You need to shoot the other kids coming at you with your dart gun before they get you. But, don’t take too long because they move closer and closer to you every second!

Final Thoughts on Playground

Wii Playground is a great game for kids ages 6 to 10. It’s a game the kids will play for hours, and doesn’t get old after the first day or two. A good investment for good wholesome fun!

Rated: Everyone
Mom’s Rating: 4 stars
Kid’s Rating:3.5 stars
